About Outpatient Oncology
Saint Joseph’s outpatient, or ambulatory care center, is a day unit that provides care for ambulatory patients from every hospital specialty, allowing patients to go home from the hospital in a timely manner and continue treatment as an outpatient.
Staff includes chemotherapy-certified RNs, nursing assistants and a secretary, most of whom have been at Saint Joseph’s for more than 20 years. Unlike other outpatient care centers, Saint Joseph’s primary care nurses remain with a patient throughout their course of treatment, sometimes lasting many months.
The Outpatient Care Center provides:
- Blood and blood product administration
- Chemotherapy and biotherapy treatment
- Infusions including antibiotics, Remicade, IVIG, Prolastin, Aredia, hydration fluids, Cytogam
- Injections including Procrit, Neupogen, Neulasta, Boniva, Xolair, Lupron, Faslodex, Sandostatin and various vaccines, including Rabies
- PICC line placement and care of venous access devices, including blood sample collection from central lines
