The Evelyn Trammell Voice & Swallowing Center
The Evelyn Trammell Voice and Swallowing Center,
a specialty center at Saint Joseph’s Hospital
in Atlanta, is a nationally recognized center dedicated
to the analysis and rehabilitation of voice and
swallowing disorders. The Center specializes in:
Staffed by skilled speech-language
pathologists specializing in voice and swallowing
disorders, the center’s clinicians are known
for their expertise and positive patient outcomes.
In 2004, the center’s staff was among the
first in the United States to be awarded Board
Specialty Recognition in Swallowing and Swallowing
Disorders by the American Speech-Language-Hearing
Association.
Founded in 1992 through a grant from the Mark
and Evelyn Trammell Foundation, the Voice
and Swallowing Center at Saint Joseph’s
was the first in the Southeastern United States
dedicated to the assessment and rehabilitation
of both voice and swallowing disorders, understanding
the important relationship between voice and swallowing
through shared anatomy and common physiology.
In 2000, the Evelyn Trammell Institute for Voice
and Swallowing at the Medical University of South
Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston was dedicated.
The MUSC program maintains a close, collaborative
and scholastic relationship with the Evelyn Trammell
Voice and Swallowing Center at Saint Joseph’s.
Through common mentorship and the mutual, ongoing
and generous funding from the Mark and Evelyn
Trammell Foundation, both organizations provide
state of the art treatment and cost-effective
care to patients, and are involved in ground-breaking
clinical research into the nature of voice and
swallowing disorders.

In addition to providing excellent care and community
outreach, the staff of the Evelyn Trammell Voice
and Swallowing center also contribute to peer-reviewed
scientific journals, faculty appointments at local
colleges/universities, host international professional
visitors and conduct national conferences.
The Evelyn Trammell Voice and Swallowing Center
is also an approved continuing education provider
for the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association,
dedicated to provision of educational opportunities
for speech pathology professionals.
The center prides itself on receiving consistently
high customer satisfaction scores. For the
last several years, 97 percent of the patient
population surveyed responded that they would
highly recommend the Evelyn Trammell Voice and
Swallowing Center to their family and friends.
Each patient served at the center receives a thorough
and complete evaluation and an individualized
treatment program through coordinated planning
between the involved physician(s) and speech-language
pathologist. The ultimate goal of all services
is to assist the individual in returning to the
highest level of health and function as possible.
