Saint Joseph’s is recognized as a leader in many areas, particularly cardiovascular services, oncology, vascular, pulmonology, gastroenterology, orthopedics and nursing excellence. Saint Joseph’s is designated as a grantee hospital for the National Cancer Institute funded Community Clinical Oncology Program. It is aimed at offering clinical trials for the treatment and prevention of cancer throughout communities in Atlanta and rural Georgia in partnership with seven affiliate hospitals. Saint Joseph’s Hospital has been awarded numerous five-star (excellent) report card ratings of excellence for quality by one of the nation’s leading health care watchdog groups. In 1996, Saint Joseph’s Hospital was the third hospital in the nation to receive the Magnet Award for Nursing Excellence. It remains in the top one percent of hospitals in the country, having received this recognition. In the field of nursing, this award is the highest level of recognition for professional nursing services as designated by the American Nurses Association.
