Saint Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta's Gamma Knife Center is one of the first in the country - and the only in Georgia - to install and utilize the Leksell Gamma Knife® Perfexion for the treatment of malignant brain tumors and other brain conditions.The Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion is highly precise and accurate (192 beams of highly-focused radiation), which greatly reduces 'background' radiation outside the area being treated. The state-of-the-art system can also accurately deliver radiation much further down the spine than older machines. First, this results in reduced treatment times - by as much as 30 minutes. And it also makes it the ideal solution for a wide variety of conditions other than brain tumors and lesions, including spinal tumors, vascular malformations, head and cervical/neck cancers and more.
