Annual Saint Joseph's Hospital Golf Classic

Each year WINGS (Workers Involved in New Growth for Saint Joseph’s) volunteers help support the caring mission of Saint Joseph's Hospital by raising mission sustaining funds through volunteer fundraising events.

2007 Golf Classic

The 16th Annual Saint Joseph’s Golf Classic presented by Brasfield & Gorrie was a huge success raising over $153,000 for the Spiritual Fellowship Program and The Kenneth E. Thomas Center for Nursing Excellence.

Forty-seven foursomes teed off at the Golf Club of Georgia on October 15, 2007.  The event included 36 holes of golf with various contests, breakfast, lunch, award reception, silent auction, and raffle. The weather could not have been more perfect, and everyone enjoyed a warm, sunny day and a beautiful golf course.

“This year we raised a record-breaking net amount of over $153,000,” said Bill Garrett, President of Saint Joseph’s Mercy Foundation. “I would like to sincerely thank our co-chairs – Dr. Byron Rosenstein and Nicole Klein, all volunteers and sponsors for their help and support. We appreciate participation of the Sisters of Mercy – Sister Angela, Sister Jane and Sister Val – and active involvement of many board members.”

The golfers had a great time on the course and enjoyed a refreshing reception with open bar and heavy hors d’oeuvres; bacon wrapped scallops, crab claws and mini cheesecakes to name a few.  Players also had a chance to bid on some great silent auction items such as an autographed photograph of Arnold Palmer, a stay in San Francisco and a foursome at some of the most elite golf clubs in Atlanta.

Live auction items included a two-night stay and a round of golf for four at Reynolds Plantation, donated by Riezl Baker and Reynolds Plantation.

Also, live auction presented a hospitality package to compete in the Lexus Champions for Charity National Championship at the famed Pebble Beach Resorts in Pebble Beach, California. The two-person team will enjoy a complete package, including first-class round-trip tickets, hotel accommodations, meals, and gift bags. We thank Peter Hennessy and Lexus for donating this trip and a chance for all golfers to win a hole-in-one prize: 2008 LX460 or RX400.

Raffle winners enjoyed prizes such as iPhones, iTouch, navigation system, LCD HDTV flat panel and many more.

First Place/Low Gross Winners with a score of 138 were Trevor Fearon, Doug Green, Mark Rheudasil, and Barry Young on Creekside. On Lakeside, Thomas Flood, Patrick Flood, David Dalrymple and Louis Brown grossed 139.

First Place/Low Net Winners with a score of 114 were Robin Hart, Stephen Johnson, Dave Shelly and Jim Thorsten on Creekside. On Lakeside, Brian Whilan, Jim Sundy, Rick Stewart and Chester Taylor scored 118.

Long Drive Winners were Louis Brown, Matt Filipowicz, Doug Green and Jason McDaniel.

The Pastoral Care team helps care for the emotional and spiritual needs of patients, families and staff. Two programs, Spiritual Fellowship Program and Music for Healing and Transition Program, will particularly benefit from the funds raised. The Center for Nursing Excellence ensures best practices in nursing care, patient safety and improved patient outcomes. The proceeds from the 2007 Golf Classic will help support advanced nursing activities such as education, research, advocacy, satisfaction, recruitment, retention and humanitarian efforts.
