Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Saint Joseph's
The North Atlanta CPE Center and the Pastoral Care Department are integral parts of the clinical team at Saint Joseph's Hospital. Several staff chaplains (full-time and part-time) of multiple denominations are assigned throughout the hospital. They welcome and support the CPE residents and interns as part of their ministry team. Each year community-based ministry opportunities are developed based on needs and availability. Currently, one of our placement sites is Campbell-Stone Christian Ministry Center - a Disciples of Christ (Christian Church) sponsored 600 unit residential facility for the elderly. Presbyterian Homes of Georgia is another for 2009 - 2010.
All of Saint Joseph's Hospital's residents and interns participate in regular on-call shifts at Saint Joseph's Hospital on week-ends and occasionally during weekday evenings and/or nights.
Saint Joseph's Hospital as a clinical context for training for ministry is exceptional for its strong reliance upon Chaplains and Ministers-In-Training to deliver spiritual care to patients, families, and staff. The philosophy of treating the whole person, in mind-body-spirit, is well integrated in the care at Saint Joseph's, and both staff chaplains and CPE students are regarded as an important part of the Compassionate Care team.
