Heart Check

Blood Pressure screenings
1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month, 8:30 -11 a.m. Perimeter Mall, lower level at the escalators closest to the food court.

High blood pressure is often called "the silent killer" because symptoms may not be present. Almost 63 million Americans age six and above have high blood pressure. Unfortunately, an estimated 46 percent of these people do not know they have it. Blood pressure screenings by a health-care volunteers are free.

Heart Check X-tra
Includes total cholesterol, total blood glucose, blood pressure, weight and BMI (body mass index), and consultation with a Saint Joseph’s professional. $ 20.00

Take Heart
Includes total cholesterol, HDL – good cholesterol, total
cholesterol/HDL ratio, blood glucose, blood pressure, weight and BMI and consultation with a Saint Joseph’s professional. $30.00

Take Heart Plus
Includes all of the above Take Heart plus LDL-bad, triglycerides. $ 40.00

Do you have leg cramps? If you have arterial/peripheral vascular disease, you are at risk for heart attack and stroke. This screening is designed to assess arterial blood flow in the legs. The screening involves removal of socks/shoes and placement of a blood pressure cuff and non-invasive doppler at specific pulse sites. Results are immediate and include a one-on-one consultation with a health-care professional. Registration fee: $ 20.00

Strike Out Stroke
Includes three lead EKG, carotid bruit, total cholesterol, HDL-good, blood glucose, blood pressure, weight and BMI and consultation with a Saint Joseph’s professional. $ 50.00

Cardiac Calcium Scoring
This screening test does not involve the use of contrast but can show calcified plaques in vessels of the heart which often are an early indicator of heart disease.

CT Angiogram (CTA) 
Usually for people with symptoms of heart disease, the CTA requires a physician order and includes the use of contrast to show abnormalities in the heart vessels. Results available within 3 – 4 days.   For more information, call 404-843-6100. $ 875.00 (if not covered by insurance)

Cancer Risk Assessments and Screenings

Skin Cancer Screening          
Education about and discussion of risk factors, head-to–toe skin examination (also available for churches, businesses at their site). $ 20.00

Prostate Cancer Screening          
Education about and discussion of risk factors, digital rectal exam and PSA blood test for men over 50 (also available for churches, businesses at their site). $20.00

Breast Cancer Screening 
Education about and discussion of risk factors, education/ demonstration of Breast Self Exam for women over 21 (also available for churches, businesses at their site) $20.00

Good Moves Mobile Mammography screenings
Good Moves Mobile Mammography is available to come to your workplace or organization. Good Moves is a convenient, low-cost health program that saves lives. Registered, certified female technologists will provide the private screening in just 15 minutes. The cost includes mammography, expert analysis by a board-certified radiologist and complete breast health information.

Participants need to be at least 35 years old, cannot be nursing or have breast implants or have any symptoms. Registration is required. For more information about the Good Moves program or to book a screening for your company, call 404-851-5357.

CT Lung Cancer Screenings 404-851-5175
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths for men and women in the United States. Often with no symptoms, most lung cancer is discovered after it is well advanced. Saint Joseph’s Hospital now offers spiral slice CT scans to detect early stage lung cancer.  The scan is quick, painless and requires no contrast dyes. If you are concerned about lung cancer risk, please call or email canscreen@sjha.org for an appointment.
