Saint Joseph's Pastoral Care Services

The pastoral care department of Saint Joseph’s Hospital is a resource and a ministry which attends to one’s spirit, faith and inner sources of strength. Chaplains affirm the spirituality of each person, including those who profess no particular religious faith.  Chaplains recognize that the inner spirit affects one’s perspective on life and one’s capacity to respond to life’s changes and crises.

At times of change or crises, most people engage in a search for meaning that can bring them hope and healing. Chaplains are available to support patients amd families during such times.Chaplains...

  • Are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Are of different faith traditions.
  • Routinely visit patients.
  • Provide spiritual support for patients and their families
  • Provide sacramental care for Catholic patients.  

Saint Joseph’s Chaplains offer support and counsel for those who:   

  • Anticipate surgery
  • Feel anxious, fearful or depressed
  • Face their own or a loved one’s death
  • Have concerns about relationships
  • Want prayer
  • Need someone to listen
  • Have spiritual concerns
  • Would like to have their minister or someone of their faith group contacted
The Chaplains
Pastoral care staff includes Catholic and Protestant chaplains. In addition, a rabbi visits our Jewish patients each week. Chaplains are available to minister to patients and families of all faith traditions and to those not affiliated with a particular faith tradition.

The Chapel 
The chapel is available for prayer and meditation. It is located off the main lobby across from the gift shop.Worship Services   Catholic Mass is celebrated Sunday through Thursday at 11 a.m. Interfaith prayer services are offered Monday and Tuesday mornings and Thursday afternoons. Times for interfaith services are announced over the hospital intercom. All worship services may be viewed on the hospital TV, channel 15.

How to contact a chaplain
Each Chaplain carries a beeper. The hospital secretaries have the beeper numbers of the chaplains assigned to work in their areas.
Also, a chaplain may be reached by calling 404-851-4062. Nights and weekends the chaplain on duty is available only on Ext. 4062.
