Signs and Symptoms of a swallowing disorder
- Coughing during or right after eating or drinking
- A feeling of food or liquid going down “the wrong pipe”
- A gurgling, “wet” sounding voice during or after eating or drinking
- Food or liquid, including saliva, leaking from the mouth (“drooling”)
- Extra time and effort required to chew and swallow.
- Sensation of things “stuck” within the throat or the chest during or after eating
- Pain when swallowing
- Food or liquid coming out of the nose while eating
- Weight loss or dehydration
