Immigration Medical Exams at Saint Joseph’s Mercy Care Services
Published Tuesday, March 2, 2010

On March 2, 2010, Saint Joseph’s Mercy Care Services was pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Srivastava, M.D. as staff physician. Joining the Mercy Clinics Downtown and North medical teams, she brings not only excellent family practice medical skills, but also her designation as a Civil Surgeon. This designation from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services authorizes physicians to perform immigration medical examinations necessary for aliens to apply for permanent residence (Green Card) or citizenship.

Sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy and Saint Joseph’s Health System, this year Mercy Care Services celebrates its 25th anniversary of delivering health care where it’s needed most. During that time, Mercy Care has been the medical home for thousands of underserved Atlanta neighbors, providing primary health care and health-related services to persons experiencing homeless, new immigrants, and to uninsured and underinsured individuals.

That’s why Mercy Care is excited to be able to share this service with community partners who focus on the referral needs of Atlanta’s immigrant population, particularly the need for medical care. In Dr. Srivastava’s role as Civil Surgeon, she will perform all necessary procedures as required by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services including: a complete medical and mental history and physical examination; tuberculosis skin test; phlebotomy screening for HIV and Syphilis (if applicant is 15 years or older); and vaccinations for mumps, measles, rubella, polio, tetanus, diphtheria toxoids, pertussis, influenza type B, hepatitis B, and any other vaccinations recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP). Proof of all prior vaccinations should be brought by the patient at his or her scheduled appointment.

Mercy Care Services makes the examination process easy. Appointments are simple to make. Fees are affordable. Testing is complete and confidential. A culturally sensitive environment and bi-lingual staff is provided. Examinations are available at Mercy Clinic Downtown and Mercy Clinic North, both easily accessed by MARTA bus and rail lines.

The staff at Mercy Care Services welcomes the opportunity to provide this important service, as well as a “medical home” for on-going primary health care, a concept  proven to produce improved quality, integrated medical care at a lower cost for both consumer and community.
