If you have ever browsed the Rose Hayes Gift Shop inside Saint Joseph’s Hospital searching for a way to pass the time, a memento to give to a patient, or a keepsake for your home, you have come in contact with Mrs. Hayes’ work. Appointed to the Board and Manager of the Gift Shop in April, 1989, she is one of few volunteer gift shop managers, as most are paid employees.
“Rose is a strong woman with a positive attitude. Despite any trials in her life, she always has a smile on her face and keeps a terrific sense of humor,” says Carol Glass, Director of volunteer services.
Those who have worked with Mrs. Hayes describe her as an extraordinary woman and a devout Catholic who rarely missed any time volunteering; she worked 5 days a week, every week and at times sacrificed weekends to help everyone.
Rose Hayes currently lives in Griffin, Georgia where she plans on expanding her volunteer work to include one of the local libraries. The Saint Joseph’s Auxiliary Board commends Hayes’ dedication, exemplary performance and commitment to her volunteer services and she will be greatly missed.
