Saint Joseph’s Translational Research Institute (SJTRI) has named Stephen J.D. Bell, Ph.D, MBA senior vice president. Bell will oversee SJTRI’s preclinical research program, business development and expansion to the new Technology Enterprise Park and The Georgia Institute of Technology.
“Stephen brings a powerful combination of research and development and business acumen to SJTRI,” says Nicolas Chronos, MD, president of SJTRI. “His talents and experience will help SJTRI achieve its goal of bringing new treatments to patients faster.”
Bell was most recently associated with Solvay Biologicals, Inc. where he was the global project director and principal investigator for the United States Influenza Program. He also served with Biosante Pharmaceuticals, Inc. as vice president, research & development and business development.
Bell earned undergraduate degrees in microbiology/zoology and biochemistry from Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa and microbiology/clinical pathology from the Wynberg Military Hospital, Cape Town. He completed a post graduate degree in clinical science and immunology at the University of Cape Town, School of Medicine, South Africa. He also completed a Ph.D. in medicine (immunology and therapeutics) at the University of New South Wales School of Medicine and earned an MBA from Coles College of Business, Kennesaw State University.
