Saint Joseph’s Hospital announced that it will release a small percentage of its workforce as part of its current reorganization and restructuring plan. The staffing changes primarily affect those serving in administrative and support roles. Staffing levels on nursing floors are not affected and attention to patient care and quality remain unchanged.
The staffing adjustment more closely aligns Saint Joseph’s with health-care industry benchmarks for appropriate staffing and is part of the hospital’s ongoing reorganization process. In addition, Saint Joseph’s has implemented measures to improve revenue management over the past several months. This is especially important as insurance reimbursements are more constricted and supplies more costly. The hospital plans to continue to make important investments in new technology and facilities to maintain its leadership position of providing high-quality, complex medical care.
“It is very difficult to let people go, but the organization needs to make adjustments to the workforce as part of the long term plan we’ve developed to ensure that we remain competitive in today’s volatile health-care environment,” says Kirk Wilson, president and CEO of Saint Joseph’s Health System. “Most importantly, we need to protect the 126-year mission of Saint Joseph’s to provide compassionate, clinically-excellent heath care, with special attention to the underserved. We’re confident that by pulling together during this difficult time, we will be the highest quality and safest hospital in Atlanta and also the most efficient.”
