Saint Joseph’s Hospital Dedicates Philanthropy Center with help of Atlanta Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory
Published Monday, December 7, 2009

Saint Joseph's Mercy Foundation has dedicated a new Philanthropy Center honoring the generosity of its donors.  The Most Reverend Wilton D. Gregory, Atlanta Catholic Archbishop, took part in the dedication ceremony by blessing the new Philanthropy hall and its participants.

"Saint Joseph's Hospital has a long history of serving the entire community, whether it is the very sick or the underserved." said Archbishop Gregory. "The generosity of Saint Joseph's donors not only helps with that mission, but also speaks to the caring spirit that lives within this vibrant health system."

The donors featured in the new exhibit include a who's who of Atlanta as well as patients and families who have received excellent care at Saint Joseph's Hospital and simply wanted to give back.  Many of the donors have also given money earmarked for Saint Joseph's Mercy Care Services.

Saint Joseph's Mercy Foundation raises approximately 7 million dollars annually for Mercy Care Services, which provides healthcare to the needy and underserved in the metro Atlanta area.  Every year, nearly ten thousand people receive services through Mercy Care. "Even in the middle of a serious recession, Saint Joseph's donors came to the table with their hearts and their wallets open," said Bill Garrett, President, Saint Joseph's Mercy Foundation. "Giving when it is the most difficult is the definition of generosity."

Saint Joseph's Hospital is a 410-bed acute care facility and Atlanta's only faith-based hospital.  It has consistently ranked as a top 50 hospital nationally for its superior and comprehensive cardiac care, orthopaedic and oncology programs, award-winning nursing staff and emergency care facilities.
