ATLANTA – (February 25, 2008) – Radiation Oncology Services (ROS), a leader in radiation oncology and cancer care in Atlanta for more than 25 years, will join Saint Joseph’s Hospital to direct clinical radiation therapy operations, effective July 1, 2008.
“We are committed to providing a center of excellence offering the most advanced diagnostic and treatment programs for our oncology patients and we are very excited to have ROS working with us. Nancy Wiggers, MD, joins the Saint Joseph’s team as medical director of the program along with Peter Possert, MD and John Giesler, MD,” says Phyllis Youngblood, vice president of oncology and digestive diseases at Saint Joseph’s.
Under the medical direction of J. Warner Ray, MD, FACRO, ROS centers are fully-accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and staffed by board-certified radiation oncologists, physicists, dosimetrists and nurses. The ROS team of physicians has expertise in treatment of breast, lung, prostate, head and neck cancers, as well as gynecologic malignancies. ROS offices are located in the Florence Hays Erb Clinical Services building on the Saint Joseph’s Sandy Springs campus. “Patients can be assured that they are receiving excellent care from a group that has been in Atlanta for more than a quarter of a century,” says Dr. Ray. “We take pride in practicing a multi-disciplinary approach to cancer treatment by developing programs with other physician specialties to ensure the best care for patients.”
Saint Joseph’s also announced the addition of the most advanced radiation therapy, the Varian high dose rate (HDR) brachytherapy providing additional treatment options for breast, prostate and gynecologic cancers. Construction is currently underway for an additional Varian linear accelerator complete with Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Image Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT) offering state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment modalities. Installation of the linear accelerator is also expected by July 1. “We’re confident that the alliance with ROS, combined with the new technology and treatment programs, will help us achieve our goal of providing the best in quality radiation therapy to our patients,” says Ms. Youngblood.
