Megumi Mathison, MD, PhD
Dr. Mathison serves as the Associate Manager
of Cardiothoracic Surgery at SJRI. Prior to
joining
the SJRI team, Dr. Mathison worked for Miami
Cardiac & Vascular Institute (MCVI) and Biomedical
Engineering Institute (BMEI) in Miami, FL. As
MCVI’s Cook Research Scholar, Dr. Mathison
conducted and presented research; wrote protocols,
abstracts, scientific papers and grant proposals;
administered procedural databases; and performed
editing and statistical analysis on a variety
of institute projects.
As Assistant Professor
of Biomedical Engineering at Florida International
University’s BMEI,
she participated in joint research and teaching
projects between MCVI and FIU. Dr. Mathison
was
also on staff at The Cardiopulmonary Research
Science and Technology Institute (CRSTI) in
Dallas,
TX.
As Director of Research Development and Publications,
Dr. Mathison developed pre-clinical and clinical
research projects in pediatric cardiac, pulmonary
and thoracic surgery disciplines. Additional responsibilities
included writing protocols, abstracts, scientific
papers and grant proposals. She performed animal
trials and advanced statistical analysis on a
variety of institute projects.
As a pediatric cardiac surgeon and Assistant
professor at Green Lane Hospital, Auckland, New
Zealand, Tokyo University, Tokyo, Japan, Kyorin
University, Tokyo, Japan, Dr. Mathison assumed
three roles: cardiac surgeon, researcher, and
educator in teaching hospitals. Dr. Mathison received
her MD from Tokyo Medical and Dental University
and her PhD from Tokyo University. Read
