Volunteer at Saint Joseph's Hospital

Are you searching for a rewarding and helpful way to spend some of your free time, or wanting to “give back” by helping patients, families or staff? Then consider volunteering at Saint Joseph’s Hospital. The hospital’s mission of delivering the best care available to those in need, honoring and respecting the intrinsic value of each individual and providing hope and comfort through spiritual care to those who are left hopeless is what our volunteers practice through their contribution of time and talents.

Saint Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta is among the nation's top 100 hospitals and among the nation's top 10 in cardiac and vascular care. Everyone wants to be on the team of the leader in quality and performance, and we have a way for you to be on that team. Volunteer positions are available for those who like to be active; those who prefer to be less active; those who prefer patient  and family contact; or for those just interested in helping out the staff. Volunteers can be seen driving courtesy carts around the campus offering rides to patients and families. They are found visiting patients and aiding them in ways that make their hospital stays more comfortable. They’re found informing families of progress with surgery, transporting patients in wheelchairs and stretchers to various destinations in the hospital, and delivering mail, fruit baskets and floral bouquets to patients. Volunteers also staff the Gift Shoppe and Merci Boutique (our "nearly-new" shop).

There are two kinds of volunteers at Saint Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta:

• The fundraising group, WINGS, or Workers Involved in New Growth for Saint Joseph’s is under the auspices of the Foundation and raises funds through events such as golf tournaments and gala balls.
  
  
• The in-hospital service group, called the Auxiliary, has a primary focus of helping in the hospital. Saint Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary was founded in 1951 when the hospital was located downtown on Ivy Street and called Saint Joseph’s Infirmary. It has grown to nearly 500 members, contributing time and talent to more than 26 departments of the hospital. Auxiliary volunteers wear uniforms and pay minimal annual dues. They, too, participate in fundraising through the Gift Shoppe, monthly vendor sales, a Wine Tasting and Silent Auction in the fall, an annual bake sale just before Thanksgiving and the Light of Love Tree at Christmas.
  
  
• The Volunteen program offers volunteer opportunities to teens ages 14 to 18 each summer during the months of June and July.  Applications are available beginning in January.  Teens generally come once or twice per week to work a 4-hour shift.  Volunteens are needed Monday- Friday from 8am- 4pm.  Volunteens work in a variety of areas including: Admissions, Breast Health, Central Transportation, CICU, Cath Lab, Mail and Flower Delivery, Medical Library, providing information at the front desk and delivering tea to cancer patients.

Volunteering holds its own rewards of self-satisfaction, but the benefit goes beyond that with many of our volunteers. As an added bonus, the friendships formed with other volunteers in the hospital are often carried on outside the hospital environment. Several times a year our volunteers come together to socialize, participate in "fun"draising and help out in community services.
