Auxiliary Volunteers

Some volunteer service areas include patient contact, while others support families or staff.  Here are a few of the areas we serve.  

Saint Joseph's Volunteers 
Patient Advocacy: Volunteer provides comfort, support and assurance to the patient and family members.  This is accomplished during a brief visit in the patient’s room.
 Saint Joseph's Volunteers
Mail and Flowers: Volunteer delivers mail and flowers to patient rooms.  Sometimes a pleasant chat with the patient and/or family is appropriate.
 Saint Joseph's Volunteers
Transportation: Volunteer transports patients in wheel chairs to their destination during admission, discharge and to and from procedure locations.

Cath Lab: Volunteer facilitates communication in the family waiting area between medical staff and family members waiting for patients returning from scheduled procedures.

Family Representative: Volunteer facilitates communication between surgical services staff and physicians to families of patients receiving surgery.

Courtesy Cart Drivers: Volunteer drives patients, family members and staff around the hospital campus providing directions, information and good humor.
 

Fun(!)draising Services

All monies raised are returned to the hospital to help fund projects.  Recent donations have supported the Electronic ICU, the establishment of the Heart and Vascular Research Institute, the main lobby renovation and many other endeavors over the years.
Saint Joseph's Gift Shop
Gift Shoppe: Visitors, staff and even patients drop by the Gift Shoppe in the main lobby to pick up flowers, magazines, candy or to browse the gifts and jewelry counter.   The shoppe is staffed entirely by volunteers
Mercy Boutique: Visitors to the Doctors Buildings go to the Atrium where the Auxiliary’s nearly new shop is filled with bargain clothing, books, seasonal items and house wares.  Volunteers staff the boutique and provide cheerful service to shoppers.   

Monthly Vendor Sales: The Atrium of the Doctors Buildings is host to monthly sales that include fine jewelry, sportswear, art, books, uniforms and other items of interest to visitors and staff.
 

Light of Love Christmas Celebration: Hundreds of colored lights on our Light of Love tree represent donations given in honor or memory of our patients, family and friends.  The tree is lit during a Christmas program that includes honoring those Auxilians who passed away during the year.   The community is welcomed to celebrate with us.   Call 404-851-7292 to receive an invitation to the festivities usually held the first or second week of December.
 

Wine Tasting Festival and Auction: During the fall the Auxiliary members gather precious donated items from friends, family, restaurants, shops, time shares and vendors of all kinds to build a fabulous silent auction.  The dinner buffet and wine tasting event is anxiously anticipated and well attended by fun loving members with their family and friends.      
 

Annual Volunteer Activities

Awards Luncheon: Thousands of hours of service are recognized at a gala luncheon to celebrate our efforts to assist patients and their families throughout the year.  Service awards are given for years of serving the hospital.
 

Cocktail Party: Just plain fun and enjoying each other’s company is what this event is all about!  We dance to a live band, dine on a sumptuous buffet and have a great time together…just because.

Membership Information Process

  1. Call 678-843-7292 for an appointment to meet at the hospital and learn about the services.
     

  2. Return to the hospital for a free TB test, name badge and orientation session.
     

  3. Tour department services to choose the one you like best.
     

  4. Pick your day and time to serve.
